Material Memories
Fall 2019
Material Memories blurs the lines between reality and digitality through the process of crochet and photography. The woven fabrics presented are photographs of handcrafted crocheted items by my mother that are then printed and re-photographed with new materials super-positioned into their composition.
In “Grief in Guts,” viewers are challenged to consider what parts of the composition are from the original photograph and which are from new material. As my mother crocheted the afghan, the memories of her own mother’s life and death manifested together into the material reality of the woven fabric.

Limited Visibility
Spring 2019
The Brush is a manifestation of myself facing the realities that many of my creative practices, that were once an integral part of my life, were stripped away. The process of my artist self being forced into another nonconsensual form was invisible to me until I was faced with constructing the Brush. My performances with the Brush are my alter artists rediscovering themselves and expressing their visibility during my re-becoming. The Brush was created out of an act of play with no reason, and is radiated throughout its existence, similar to the intent of my child self. Showcased are significant moments of synergy between the Brush and I where our visions align.
Paint Creek
Spring 2020
Paint Creek is a performative expression of the ritualistic behavior of my childhood self in my backyard that has set the stage for metaphorical behaviors in my ongoing life. I choreographed four sequences that are reflective of these behaviors including Wash, Collect, Make, and Hunt. Each of these motions are based on embodied memories of specific rituals in my backyard that when pieced together, become part of a greater practice. The motions can be experienced separately, reordered, or varied amongst themselves.
